Rochester Wedding Trends: Watercolor!

Guest blog post presented by Ilana from Sugar and Type, a design studio with a serious passion for paper!

Hello Buffalo! I’m so excited to be a member of Buffalo Indie Weddings, rep'ping your sister city, Rochester!
I started my business after getting my Bachelors of Fine Art from RIT, and it’s been an incredible journey. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing clients, and it’s been so fun to share my own journey planning my own wedding!

We all loved playing with water and paint as kids, but as a grown up - watercolor is magical. Kelly Place and Rachel Elizabeth are two Rochester artists who have really made watercolor something to be remembered.

I love how in the above design, Rachel took a classic invitation and gave it a spin. The playful typeface, and the mix of colors is stunning. I especially love the edges on the thank you card!

Kelly's pieces all feel so unique, and her colors are so rich! Kelly does the watercolor, and the calligraphy/lettering - of course, the envelope addressing is just as amazing.

I love how these designs incorporate so much about the couple - from their favorite colors to the way the invitation is worded.

Can't get enough of these either? Be sure to contact Kelly or Rachel for some seriously stunning watercolor paper goods.

Trend Report: Wedding Dresses from the Indie Designer Fashion Show

Bridal week is going on right now in NYC, and while we're so excited to see what's new for the year to come on the huge runways, we're also very excited about the dresses that walked down OUR runway at the bridal show last Sunday!

In case you missed it, the show featured items from independent designers from all over the country, and even Canada! The dresses are visiting Buffalo for a two week period and are on display inside Made by Anatomy just waiting for you to come and try them on!

Sexy and classy with low cut necklines, open backs and boning with soft tulle and pink.

Eco friendly fabrics and clean, simple silhouettes.

Beautiful floral beading on sheer sleeves in beige and golds.

Elegant and simple lines in beautiful, natural fabrications that are timeless and feminine.

Short and sweet with feathers, or long and dramatic with cascading ruffles and embellishments.

Classically bridal with full ballgowns that are unique in details.

Drop waist, fitted silhouettes with fun, full tulle skirt and contrast lace.

You just won't find more unique dresses anywhere in Buffalo. All of the gowns are made to measure and many are customizable!  Hours for the trunk show are posted on made by anatomy's Facebook page and appointments are encouraged! Call 716-882-1500 for a private fitting!

WNY Wedding Trends : Letterpress | Buffalo Indie Weddings

I knew when I got engaged that I'd be calling Amy of greengirlpress to help me print my invitations. I LOVE letterpress, and even have one of my own, but it's pretty tiny, and I definitely needed Amy's expertise.

Gold and blush is incredible, but mixed with this slate, it's taken to a whole new level! Add calligraphy and letterpress to the mix, and you're bound to leave a lasting first impression on your guests. When you opt for letterpress, you get amazing tangible products, and a unique "gold" that works with so many styles.

Kraft paper is the bomb. I love how Amy mixes it with so many color combinations, and lets each couples shine through!

Adding a map to your invitation suite might be my favorite thing right now, along with unique wording. Our ceremony was inside a park, and pretty difficult to navigate - so we sent everyone invited a fun map to help them find our location. I love how Amy's couple titled this "Odds & Ends". The wording really sets the tone for your wedding, and I can tell this one came with a lot of heart. This invite actually folds up - so all of the information is together, and hopefully doesn't get lost in the ever growing pile of "incoming mail" we all pretend we don't have.

I love how this couple took their theme onto their place cards! I can tell they clearly are foodies, and if only I could be a guest to try some of those delicious menu items! If you're thinking about letterpress, be sure to reach out to Amy, and you'll definitely leave a first "impression"! (I promise, that joke will never get old to me!)

Buffalo Indie Wedding Member Spotlight: Invitation Design by Morgan

Your wedding stationery is meant to reflect the bride and groom - who they are, what they like, they're style and of course, the theme of the wedding! Our member Morgan of Invitation Design by Morgan works very closely with her couples to determine who they are so she can create the most spot-on, personalized wedding stationery that is truly unique!

We had to start by sharing her very own wedding invites!

We love this save the date so much we featured it in our first edition of With Love magazine!

We loved these other great invites she did for a birthday and holiday party! There is so much personality in them, you can't help but wish you were invited to those parties!

Morgan will be leading some fabulous crafts in our DIY Department at our big bridal showcase on 10.05! Grab your tickets now to be a part of the fun!
