Buffalo Indie Weddings Member Spotlight: Babeville/Asbury Hall !

"Asbury Hall (1200 capacity) is an open-floor hall with 45-foot-high ceilings, state-of-the-art sound, and balcony seating; the space can be configured in any number of ways to accommodate a wide range of events from weddings and bar mitzvahs to fundraisers to full-on rock shows. "

Not to brag... but we hold our events at some of the coolest and most modern wedding venues around! We like character, and personality in the places we party much like brides and grooms for their own weddings! So needless to say we are beyond excited about our event at Asbury Hall!
This old Gothic-style church was saved from demolition and revived by singer/song-writer Ani Di Franco. The project lasted over ten years and cost 10 million dollars in total! The outcome is one of the most beautiful and versatile venues in Buffalo!

Just wait until we take it over on Sunday and cover it with glitter and sparkles! Stop by to see what this beautiful space has to offer for your event!

NY Wedding Trends : Unique Venue At The Yards, Rochester NY

Guest blog post presented by Ilana from Sugar and Type, a design studio with a serious passion for paper!

Hello Buffalo! I’m so excited to be a member of Buffalo Indie Weddings, rep'ping your sister city, Rochester!
I started my business after getting my Bachelors of Fine Art from RIT, and it’s been an incredible journey. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing clients, and it’s been so fun to share my own journey planning my own wedding!

When Gregg and I started looking for venues, we knew we wanted something unique, and rustic. While ballrooms can be beautiful, it didn't fit our vision or style. It was exhausting asking friends, searching online, and trying to find alternative solutions, but today there are so many amazing places popping up offering to open their doors to couples looking for an amazing celebration.

The Yards is a collaborative art space in the heart of the historic Rochester Public Market, and it's just perfect for a unique indie bride. Not to mention it's the perfect combination with a dessert table from Scratch Bake Shop! I love these mini cupcakes, and of course their choice of display! Anything chalkboard is okay with me (and no - it's not overdone!)

Being engaged changed how I felt about monograms and initials. Since my name starts with the letter "I" I've never been able to find monograms, but Scratch can make all my wildest initial and monogram dreams come true - custom cupcake toppers, and even cookies with your initial cut out? YES please!!!! You'll see on the last picture that Scratch made all of these deserts Vegan! I love all the details here, and can't wait to see more pictures from weddings at The Yards!

Buffalo Indie Weddings Member Spotlight : Lloyd's Taco Truck + Catering

"It’s our goal to bring you the best food possible, and that means the best ingredients possible. We eat this way and we want our customers to join us in eating this way."
Lloyd's Taco Truck & Catering

Oh the joy. I'm sure we can all relish in the memory of the last Lloyd's taco that was inhaled whether it was for lunch, dinner, snack, or midnight snack! They were the first food truck to pop up in Buffalo, and have certainly sparked a movement! Great food on wheels - what could be better?! Oh yeah... bringing them to your wedding!

Lloyd's can cater your entire event, drop off the food or wheel the truck up and serve your guests into the wee-hours of the night as the party rages!

As if the amazing taste of the food they create wasn't enough, they are avid advocates for better quality ingredients and supporting sustainable and local farmers. They list right on their site where they source their products and encourage local farms to participate!
No wonder those taco's taste so good!

Lloyd's will be at the next event on October 5th at Asbury Hall - truck and all!! Once you've made it through the event (and after a few cocktails) stop at the truck for a bite! You can also speak with the catering manager about how you can get Lloyd's at your wedding!

Wedding Trends : Dessert Tables | Buffalo Indie Weddings

Guest blog post presented by Ilana from Sugar and Type, a design studio with a serious passion for paper!

When I started thinking about what kind of cake I wanted at my wedding, one thing was clear. I hate fondant. It's beautiful, traditional, and super elegant, but I am a serious fan of dessert, and it's definitely not my favorite taste. I love dessert so much, I named my business after it! I take dessert VERY seriously.

Brown Sugar and Figs are so beautiful, and watch out cupcakes, donuts are making a comeback. Don't even get me started on French Macaroons! Having a dessert table is a great option if you're looking for something a little more unique, or if could never pick your favorite, try having a couple options!

Naked cakes are all the rage right now, and don't worry if you LOVE frosting as much as I do - they're jammed packed in between the layers! Make sure to tell your vendor that you love frosting, and they can make the layers thinner so there's no frosting in every bite!

Buffalo Indie Weddings Member Spotlight : Larkinville, Larkin Square!

A true Buffalo institution, what we so lovingly call "Larkinville" is a group of warehouses dating back to 1876 when John D. Larkin began manufacturing soaps inside the main warehouse, the Larkin Square Building. Once the Larkin Development Group got their hands on the area they transformed it to a lush business and social gathering place where you can enjoy live music, food truck rally's, craft and art festivals and even weddings and special events!

Leslie, the "Director of Fun" and her team will be at our next event on October 5th to tell you all about how you can utilize this truly unique and iconic space for your wedding!

Buffalo's Best Bridal Show : 10.05 at Babeville, Asbury Hall | Buffalo Indie Weddings

We've had an absolute blast throwing our last two BIG bridal shows & wedding marketplaces! We can't wait to show you what we have in store for the next one, coming right up on Sunday 10.05.14, 2-6PM at Asbury Hall!

You may be thinking "Ughh... not another bridal show...." And trust us, we hear you! We know the typical shows can be exhausting, full of shoving brides rushing to jam their bags with all the freebies they can fit, an abundance of car-salesman type vendors pushing you to sign contracts on the spot, loud, awful music in a bland, big open space with zero personality...

As modern wedding vendors, we thought the same thing! We wanted MORE. We wanted BETTER. We wanted, basically, TO HAVE FUN while showing off our kick-ass services and hanging with some super cool couples. And so, Buffalo Indie Weddings was born!

Not sure what we mean? Here's what you can expect at our shows :
  • Fresh, modern offerings from WNY's best wedding vendors, who are all small, locally owned LGBT-friendly businesses that love LOVE, love Buffalo and love their clients even more!
  • A showcase of the most exciting creative services and handmade items to make your wedding day 100% YOU!
  • A gorgeous venue to party in! We always throw our events in historic Buffalo buildings, places that we love to show off, and places that host incredible weddings!
  • A room full of fun! We don't throw bridal shows, we throw PARTIES. There's always a full bar, cocktail specials, delicious food, great tunes, photo booth excitement, gorgeous decor & more!
  • New this show : Don't miss our DIY Department where you can take a break from the show & try your hand at some great craft projects! And guys, we surely didn't forget about you! Head downstairs into the Groom's Lounge and enjoy craft brews, suit shopping, groomsmen gift displays and more!
  • A super relaxed, easy-going, and yet totally thrilling atmosphere! Our shows are designed for you to come & stay awhile! There's no rush, no pushy vendors, no long lines; grab a cocktail and make your rounds, enjoying chats with all of our wonderful vendors!
So if you're a creative bride or groom looking for quality options and stellar vendors for your BIG day, THIS is the show for you!

View more on our Facebook Event Page here and buy your tickets on our website now to save! $10 online & $15 at the door.

We can't wait to see you at the PARTY! Enjoy some shots from our February event as a sneak peek of what you'll find on 10.05!
